Ford Vehicles in Hollywood TV Series

Ford vehicles will be gracing some of the most popular television shows today starting off with ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” wherein the new character Dana Delaney will be driving a 2008 Lincoln MKX. Over the set of NBC’s “Las Vegas” is an entire caravan of new Ford F-150s that are getting ready to roll through the casino. The leading character of the new cop drama “Life” will also be driving a 2008 Ford Taurus.

Ford has placed around 70 vehicles in 29 TV shows and to think that production for the year isn’t even half over. This is courtesy of Ford Global Brand Entertainment which was formed three years ago with the responsibility of loaning vehicles to studios and networks in exchange for airtime on television, movies, and other media. The FGBE has ever since became the source of vehicles for many of Hollywood’s producers, directors, and transportation heads who are in need of perfect vehicle to suit the right character at the right time.

Bo Ehrig, the transportation director of “Desperate Housewives” was quoted by Media Ford as saying: "The guys at Ford have been invaluable. On Wisteria Lane, everything has to be perfect including the cars. The Ford team works with our producers in making critical story decisions on what’s right for our characters. They’re always looking for what’s best for Ford and we’re always looking for what’s best for the show. In the process we’ve developed an incredibly strong symbiotic relationship."

The relationship of Ford with the Hollywood community is very important since it helps the automaker in promoting its vehicles and although it is true that TV series may come and go but the crews, producers and the transportation directors remains. FGBE team member Ross MacKenzie said that: "When a show is cancelled the production people move on to other shows. So over time we’ve been able to develop relationships at every studio and every network."

For much of its run, FGBE supplied vehicles for Fox’s “The OC” and when the show finished production and the transportation director moved on to the new NBC series “Life” he still calls Brian Daly the senior VP with Team Detroit, a Ford advertising agency who is now assigned full-time to the FGBE office for advice since they are in need of an American-made car for the lead character played by Damian Lewis. To cut the story short, FGBE has provided the needed vehicle same with other TV shows like “The Neighbors”, “Notes from the Underbelly”, “Pushing Daises”, “Chuck”, and the “Dirty Sexy Money” that needed Fusions, Jaguars, Range Rovers, and F-150s.

Ford vehicles also remain to be a part of some of the biggest television hits including Brothers and Sisters, CSI: Miami, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Desperate Housewives.

With all the exposures that Ford vehicles are getting it makes you wonder why its sales in the US is still doing poorly. Anyway, its other two Detroit brothers General Motors and Chrysler the producer of Dodge catalytic converters are also suffering the same fate in a reality show where Toyota is the lead character.
